  7. D-SHRINK Disk layout Optimizer speeds up disk access by repacking the file
  8. system to make each file contiguous. By default, D-SHRINK processes the whole
  9. disk, so minimizing file access and transfer times. User overrides can place a
  10. specific file anywhere on the disk. For example, move the most commonly used
  11. programs to the beginning of the disk, or to move all the directories into one
  12. part of the disk so as to speed up path searches. The manual suggests a number
  13. of ideas for best use of the disk and file system, as well as details of how to
  14. implement various optimization strategies. While intended to be used
  15. interactively, D-SHRINK can also be used unattended so as to perform file
  16. system optimization overnight.
